Our mission
AgriZero AI is a subdomain initiative from IDRO dedicated to one purpose: showing that it is possible to protect crops well while using far fewer pesticides.
We believe low-pesticide agriculture does not mean no crop protection. It means using the right intervention, at the right place, at the right time, with chemicals used only when truly necessary.
Our work combines research, technology awareness, knowledge sharing, and partner connections to move Indian agriculture toward precision and biological crop protection at scale.
Why this project exists
Farmers need yield protection
We are not asking farmers to risk their crops. Pest and disease pressure is real and causes real yield loss. Any low-pesticide approach must protect yields first, then reduce chemicals as a secondary benefit.
Blanket spraying has real costs
Calendar-based blanket spraying accounts for a large share of input costs for smallholder farmers. It also builds pest resistance over time, harms beneficial insects and pollinators, and leaves residues that affect market access. These are practical problems, not just environmental ones.
Technology now makes targeted intervention possible
AI cameras can identify pests. Spot-spraying robots can apply chemicals only where needed. Pheromone traps can suppress pest populations without any spray. Biological products can kill specific pests safely. These tools exist today and are being used at commercial scale in several countries.
India is ready for this shift
Indian farmers face strong pressure from export residue requirements, rising input costs, and growing consumer awareness around food safety. The agritech startup ecosystem in India is vibrant and growing. FPOs are expanding access to shared services. The conditions for a shift to precision and biological crop protection are improving every year.
